Belonging is more

So long, England. Thanks for topping up my reserves of Northern grit through the challenges of navigating two levelling, confronting months, and for flooding me with joy, awe, and wonder through one of the best months I’ve ever known. Sixteen y

Reuniting with the beloved silver birch that grows near to my home in Manchester, which inspired Aura’s Selkie Tree in The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding, still undoes me.

I find the thick, paper-like sound of brushing its bark to be as vivid

It was a mind-devouring-itself kind of day. So we went to the moors.

Walked through bracken and mud. Under oaks and beside stone walls, past lichen parties and silver birch shedding their papery skins.

Robins and blackbirds darted and sang around
