The Joy Rise

The Joy Rise is my online community, where you can subscribe to receive letters from me about creativity, courage, beauty, fear, and the messy work of making a joyous, resilient life.

This is the place where I connect with my readers, share first-to-know news, and answer questions about my books and the creative process.

A woman with long wavy brown hair and bangs standing against a pale blue wall, smiling at the camera. She has tattoos on her left arm, wears a sleeveless cream-colored crochet top, light blue jeans, several necklaces, and bracelets.

In every letter of The Joy Rise I share the tender, messy, euphoric, frightening, bewildering, challenging, beautiful process of actively living a creative life. And gently encourage you to do the same.

No matter if you’re a reader, writer, dancer, gardener, surfer, sculptor, singer … or someone quietly longing to make something just for the joy and love of it, this is a space is for you, me, and the creative fire in our bellies.

A cluttered desk with art supplies, a computer monitor displaying a pink and purple abstract background, books, decorative items, and a blue wall with bookshelves and hanging bird-themed decorations.

Here, we name the fears that keep us from making. We reclaim our courage to create.

As Emily Dickinson wrote:

If your Nerve, deny you β€”

Go above your Nerve β€”

The Joy Rise is a place where we go above our nerve together.

Because the joy of creativity, whatever that means for us, is reason enough.

Ask me a question

Have a question about creativity? Or what keeps us from making the stuff we love?

This is a safe place to ask.

I answer questions in my free-to-read letters on The Joy Rise.

And even if you don’t have a question, I’d love to hear from you.

What would you love to read from me?

We’re building this space together.

Here’s to us, our creativity and joy.
